Website Accessibility
The University of Richmond is dedicated to providing a thriving and inclusive community in which all individuals are respected and valued. As part of this commitment, we are proactively working to enhance the accessibility of our web-based institutional spaces. We are committed to:
- Maintaining accessible websites for the widest possible audience across a spectrum of technology, devices, and abilities
- Ensuring University websites will achieve “Level AA” compliance with the industry-standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 guidelines
In order to achieve and maintain this commitment, the University is taking a number of steps, including:
- Using a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) compliant validation tool to monitor website compliance and assist with remediation of non-compliant features
- Continuously refining existing University website templates to improve adherence with the WCAG standard
- Developing and deploying new University website templates utilizing a modern and accessible web framework to replace outdated templates
- Increasing utilization of assistive technologies, such as the Accessible Rich Internet Application suite of web standards (WAI-ARIA), to enhance accessibility on the web where native html is not sufficient
- Providing ongoing training on web accessibility best practices for web developers and content creators
- Identifying and planning for additional steps and actions
